About the Lions Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut:

The Lions Low Vision Centers were established in 1990 to provide unique services and resources to individuals with low vision needs. The Lions Low Vision Center of Eastern Connecticut provides these services to individuals in New London, Middlesex, Tolland, and Windham Counties. Services are rendered without charge to clients. The center is staffed by a Technician trained in optimizing a client’s remaining eyesight through the proper use of magnification, glare control, proper lighting, specialized reading techniques, and referral to additional supportive agencies. Our Technician dispenses low vision Aids and trains individuals to use these devices to enhance remaining vision.

About our Services:

So, you give free eye exams, right?

Sorry. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about the Low Vision Center. We do not offer eye exams.

Then you must give people free eyeglasses, yes?

Nope. Our clients have already seen vision professionals and their medical condition cannot be improved any further through corrective surgery, medication, or eyeglasses. Their best vision, with glasses, ranges from a visual acuity of 20/60 to 20/200.

Then what exactly Do You Do?

We offer services that are often not available to our clients from any other source. Our clients are a very special group of people. They have some remaining vision, but often it is insufficient to perform the tasks of daily living. Tasks like reading, setting a thermostat, seeing the dials on a stove or other appliance, watching TV, and preparing meals can be tremendously challenging to our clients.

It Starts With a Phone Call

Our center serves Connecticut residents in Tolland, Windham, New London, and Middlesex Counties.

Call Toll Free 1-860-377-2063

Call to speak with our Technician! Services are by appointment only. Often we are able to come to the client, and we visit several area senior centers on a regular basis. Get in touch- we want to help!
